North Wildwood

Dubbed the "parade capital," the community of North Wildwood at the northern end of the Wildwoods boasts more than a dozen parades that celebrate everything from holidays to ethnic and cultural traditions. Volleyball tournaments, treasure hunts for the children, festivals and model airplane shows delight the kids of all ages who vacation year after year at the northern end of the Wildwoods. Among North Wildwood’s newest attractions is the tram car service offered on the widest parts of the City’s beachfront as a service to transport visitors interested in riding, not walking, to the shoreline. The white, sandy beach which covers approximately 45 million square feet is "too big" for some visitors and just right for others. The new transportation service operates during day and evening hours to transport visitors who want a ride to the shoreline. For nature lovers, North Wildwood offers natural vistas on the beach, boardwalk and bay sides of the community. Meticulously manicured landscapes can be found in such places as the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse and at the gazebo where beautiful flower gardens are open to the public. "Wild areas" of sand dune grass have been planted and nurtured along much of the very wide beachfront in the community. The Anglesea area at the tip of the northern section was the first place in the Wildwoods to become a resort. Today, one of the island’s most popular cultural attractions, the Victorian-styled Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, is home to the city’s historical artifacts and memorabilia. Visitors are invited to climb to the top of the lighthouse and view the expansive beachfront north to Stone Harbor and south to Wildwood Crest. Fisherman vacationing in the Wildwoods today can still create a fish story and many surf fishing tournaments planned in the fall months provide the perfect opportunity for modern anglers to boast about the "big one" that got away. Dining in North Wildwood is a real treat. Fresh seafood selections, sumptuous steaks and fast food favorites are available in intimate eateries, diners, dockside restaurants and pubs located throughout the city. Tasty ice cream selections and delectable desserts are easy to find in storefront stands and eateries. When the sun goes down, the lights go on in the pub and tavern district. The Anglesea section of the community has become a popular entertainment hub for many adults offering an eclectic choice of entertainers to attract customers interested in dancing the night away. From the thrill of the boardwalk rides, the natural beauty of the gardens and dunegrass, the fancy food favorites at fine restaurants and the exciting special events, North Wildwood offers something fun for every member of the family.

Eating on the Boardwalk can also be an "awesome" option. Tasty treats, delectible seafood, sweet confections and many more culinary concoctions are awaiting passersby. West Wildwood

Surrounded on all sides by water and with a pace a little less hurried than the neighboring communities is West Wildwood, which is joined to Wildwood by a two-lane bridge that serves as the only road into and out of town.

West Wildwood, comprised primarily of small vacation and year-round homes with a single nightclub, a miniature golf course and several marinas, has a pace and atmosphere suited to those who eschew bright lights and traffic jams in favor of sitting on an outside deck and watching recreational boats glide through the water as herons take to their roosts.

Lacking the large hotels and motels common in the other communities of the Wildwoods, West Wildwood instead offers plenty of weekly, monthly, or seasonal private residences for visitors.

Many who live in or visit West Wildwood do so because of its quiet atmosphere, its abundant fishing and boating opportunities, and its proximity to the excitement of Wildwood nightlife including the world-famous Boardwalk, restaurants, and nightclubs, and the vast bathing beaches that run for miles along the eastern side of the Wildwoods.

West Wildwood in unique in shore communities in that it is truly unspoiled by commercial development. It is a favorite among families and retirees who enjoy the fact that while West Wildwood is seemingly tucked away from the rest of the world, it is central to the cultural and recreational activities that proliferate throughout Cape May County.

Wildwood Crest

Wildwood Crest, at the southern end of the five-mile long barrier island known as The Wildwoods, boasts huge, white beaches, the finest hotel and motel accommodations, and on the west side, a picturesque bay and Sunset Lake, named for the incredible picturesque summer sunsets.

As the only one of the oceanfront Wildwoods without a Boardwalk, Wildwood Crest’s beaches are instead fronted by luxurious hotels and motels that offer guests true beachfront accommodations.

Hailed as the "The Dolphin Capitol," the bottle-nose mammals can regularly be seen frolicking in the water just a few feet away from swimmers, putting on a show for visitors taking advantage of Wildwood Crest’s free beaches. As the island’s boating center, a variety of charter, fishing and cruise boats line the bayside of the community, ready to take passengers on a trip through the Intercoastal Waterway into the Atlantic Ocean for a day of fishing or a sightseeing tour. Private rentals for boats and personal watercraft are also available.

Fine dining is abundant throughout Wildwood Crest, as are a variety of outdoor activities. One of the most popular activities in Wildwood Crest is a morning bicycle ride along a bike path that takes riders – walkers as well – along the beach up to the start of the Boardwalk in Wildwood.

Summer nights can be spent taking in one of the free musical concerts in Wildwood Crest offered at the municipal Gazebo, or at the Crest Pier recreation facility.

Craft shows, speedboat races, a Christmas in July boat parade, a fall Seafarer’s Weekend and Hobie Cat sailboat races are among the special events held yearly in this resort.

For nightlife, the bustling communities of Wildwood and North Wildwood are just a short walk, drive, or trolley ride away, and Victorian Cape May lies just five miles to the south and Atlantic City just 40 miles to the north.

With the largest selection of the finest accommodations on the Jersey Cape, a bounty of spacious, clean and well-protected beaches, and a wealth of dining and entertainment opportunities, a Wildwood Crest vacation will leave you with sand in your shoes, a suitcase full of memories, and a vow to return again.
